TEN
"essentials" that I cannot scrapbook without:
- pattern
paper (I seriously must stop buying paper!)
- alphabets
in any form (stickers, fonts, stamps, die cuts---you name
it, if it's an alphabet, I want it)
- peaceful
quiet to journal in (I've made a total of two layouts ever
without journaling)
- 3L
photo tape (OK, I confess it's a little archaic to still
be peeling the back off my adhesive, but strange or not,
it's something I like about scrapping)
- my
snap-off knife and cutting glass (I love cutting things
out by hand)
- Basic
Grey magnetic mat (I've been amazed a the impact this tool
has had on my layouts-less measuring and quicker results)
- ribbon
(lately I am obsessed with ribbon and can't seem to get
enough of it on my layouts)
- Rotatrim
paper trimmer (my husband surprised me with this a few years
ago-I think he was tired of me complaining about crooked
cuts, and this definitely cuts straight)
- quiet
music (because someone is generally sleeping when I'm scrapping)
- comfy
socks (I am much more creative if my toes are warm and have
wiggle room, weird as that sounds!)

NINE words/phrases
I love are
palimpsest,
chalk, onomatopoeia, ragamuffin, cairn, felicity, numinous, couloir,
frabjous (OK, I know that last one is a portmanteau, but I still
love it).
EIGHT
goals I still have to accomplish in my life:
- Finish my
novel
- Publish a
book of poetry
- Research
the Irish branch of my family tree-in Ireland
- Run a marathon
- Hike all
the 11,000+ foot mountain peaks on the Wasatch Front
- Raise my
children to be happy and successful adults
- Donate my
time at a remote orphanage
- Travel to
all my dream destinations
SEVEN things
I love about my "every day" life
- Sunday is
my afternoon-nap day; I love feeling fully rested.
- Monday is
my deep-cleaning day, and while I definitely don't enjoy cleaning,
I always love that virtuous feeling that only comes when your
bathrooms are pristine.
- Tuesday is
my no-guilt-allowed day; my house is clean so I feel like I can
devote my free time to being creative, whether it's quilting or
writing or scrapbooking.
- Wednesday
is my busy day. Between work (I'm a librarian), appointments,
Scouts, church responsibilities, and the mid-week slump, I'm just
glad to make it to the end of the day.
- Thursday
is my favorite day, because the weekend's almost here and my favorite
TV shows are on! I love Grey's Anatomy and CSI.
- Friday is
my relaxing day; I love hanging out in my PJs all day, knowing
there's nowhere my kids need to be after school.
- Saturday
is my look-forward-to-evening day, since it's the night I have
a date with the man I love.
SIX places
I'd love to visit before I die:
- the British
Isles
- the Haggia
Sophia
- the Alps
- the top of
Mt. Kilamanjaro
- the Alaskan
back country (but only in the summer!)
- the Christchurch
region of New Zealand
FIVE things
I do everyday, without fail:
- write something
- read something
- kiss four
little and one big someones
- go outside
somewhere
- thank someone
FOUR stores/websites
I frequent
- I get a serious
creative rush by looking at fabrics, and my favorites are usually
by Moda.
- I go to
Summit Post
when I am itching to get outside and hike!
- Poetry
Daily
is a great source for contemporary poetry. There's a new poem
everyday, plus biographical information on the poet and links
to other cool poetry sites. OK, I'm certain my geekier side is
showing right now!
- I like reading
Slate's take
on the news; the essays and articles are always timely, interesting,
well-written, and funny. Even bad news takes on a certain coolness
when seen through the Slate eyeglasses.
THREE photos
I love:
My favorite
photo of my three "bigs"
(my oldest kids); I love it because
they've all got on their real smiles.
|
I love
taking photos of my flower gardens.
This is a favorite shot of a butterfly bush.
|
Hands down,
my favorite baby
photo (of my "baby" who is four now).

TWO
decisions I've never regretted
- A good part
of my twenties was dedicated to completing my university education
so that I could become an English teacher. (I managed to fit in
three kids during that time, too.) Yet, I decided to leave the
profession after teaching just two years. I love teaching, and
yet when I think about how torn I always was between my teacher
role and my mother role, I feel no regrets about switching professions.
- When I first
started scrapbooking, most of my friends were doing it, and I
think I decided to pick up the hobby simply so I could hang out
with them at scrapbooking retreats! Now, nearly all of those friends
have quit scrapping, but I'm still doing it and don't regret it.
It's satisfying to know that so many stories (illustrated with
photos) won't be lost or forgotten.
ONE
additional and very important thing you should know about me is:
I am dedicated
to the idea that every single scrapbooker can learn to love journaling
and do it well. This is important!
