FAQs
Who
is this course
intended for?
This class is
designed for
the advanced
amateura
student who
is looking to
refine his or
her personal
style and advance
her portraiture
work to the
next level through:
What
do I need to
understand about
photography
and myself?
The student
understands
that just buying
an expensive
camera, downloading
handouts and
listening to
an audio file
will NOT make
you a better
photographer.
The only way
to improve is
to participate
fully in the
classroom, completing
the assignments
and learning
from mistakes
and receiving
honest critiques
of your work.
You
must possess
the following:
1. A digital
SLR camera (a
digital camera
that allows
lenses to be
changed and
can be controlled
in manual mode)
2. A solid understanding
of your camera's
operation in
manual mode.
You must be
proficient in
adjusting aperture
and shutter
speed. You must
also be able
to control your
camera's flash,
turning it on
and off.
3. A basic working
knowledge of
an image editing
software (such
as Photoshop
Elements)
4. Knowledge
and experience
with digital
workflow (ability
to resize,
name and upload
images to
the Big Picture
Scrapbooking
online gallery).
How
much time should
I expect to
complete the
weekly assignments?
Most assignments
can be completed
in two hours.
This does not
include processing
and uploading
images to Big
Picture Scrapbooking.
Individuals
may choose to
get more creative
and spend more
time on the
assignments.
Are
you going to
review the use
of imaging software?
The short answer
is no. This
class will touch
on a few topics,
but overall,
this course
is not about
Photoshop or
digital image-editing
software.
Can
students submit
previously created
work for critique?
Allison's professional
schedule and
time management
will allow for
only one or
two images submitted
for weekly critiques.
The goal of
this course
is to create
fresh images
based on lessons
presented. Photos
submitted that
do not pertain
to the lesson
will not be
critiqued.
Who
will be doing
the critiques?
Allison is the
only one doing
the critiques.
You will be
receiving the
benefit of years
of experience
in the feedback
you receive
with each lesson.
This classroom
will feature
a critique gallery
and a sharing
gallery. Students
may post images
in the sharing
gallery, so
other students
can share comments.
Will
the students
have access
to Allison during
the class?
Yes! Students
can ask questions
in the special
section set
up on the message
board called
"Ask Allison."
As a working
professional
photographer
with a demanding
clientele, Allison
is not able
to respond to
individual e-mail
correspondence
or spend time
on other discussions
on the message
board. She will,
however, be
available on
the message
board one day
per week to
answer posted
questions in
her forum.
