[ stacy julian ] Hello LOMers -- how is it going today?
[ sleepyhead ] great!
[ nessa b. ] hello! glad to be here
[ JeriP ] Glad to be here.
[ artiste ] hi stacy :-)
[ MelissaTX ] Great! How about your?
[ JoanieBaloney ] good, thx
[ artiste ] motivate me
[ sleepyhead ] where do you put birthday layouts - I'm torn between Us and Things We celebrate?
[ 2beCreative ] Hello! Going great.
[ nonnysbooks ] Good afternoon
[ Duckienz ] Good Morning :D Great to be here. My first one.
[ Tilly-Loo ] Hello Stacy and fellow LOMers!
[ angeljade ] Hi everyone!
[ cgull1 ] I was just looking at the gallery for week 2. I have a lot to do!
[ stacy julian ] birthday layouts in my world go in the All About Us albums -- more specifically (we're not there yet) in the individual All About Us albums -- ie, clark's birthday layouts go in the All About Clark album.
[ Clamchelle ] "Good afternoon! <br />
Busy, busy!"
[ artiste ] we have two weeks cgull ;-)
[ Marta ] Hi Stacy &amp; my fellow LOMers!
[ scrapbookenthusiast ] Hi Stacy and everyone! Hope everyone is having a great day. :)
[ stacy julian ] I am well (thank you) just participated with Noell Hyman and others on the Paperclipping Roundtable. We have a great discussion on personal creative process.
[ nessa b. ] haven't started my least common layout yet but I'm working towards it. got distracted with my digital pics
[ sleepyhead ] do you still do event based pages - or do all of your pages showcase photos from different time periods?
[ Tilly-Loo ] I love the Roundtable! I look forward to listening to that episode... I listen while I stuff binders.
[ elinjanne ] Hi everyone!
[ Duckienz ] What is Roundtable and how to you listen to it?
[ stacy julian ] In reflecting on my personal process it became clear to me that my most favorite layouts are those that stem from an idea (be it an experience, quote, book I'm reading, etc ...) I love it when I can mull over an idea for days at a time and then use my LOM system to find photos that help me express my thoughts and emotions on a scrapbook page!
[ AprilFL ] sleepyhead, I definitely still do both.
[ Molly ] I'm really enjoying all of Lesson 2 content Stacy!
[ Marta ] Hi Molly!
[ Keri Tate ] super
[ KellyEH ] Like Nessa, I'm still working through digital - but I'm away from home too. Will do least common layout when I get back.
[ angeljade ] I'm happy to say that I believe all of my prints are now officially organized! Now I'm just developing my digital workflow...
[ sleepyhead ] thanks, i'm feeling very inspired to scrap a million different things but if it feels 'chronological' I've stopped myself and now I'm a little stuck
[ sleepyhead ] congrats angeljade - what an accomplishment! now that is BIG :-)
[ Molly ] To listen to Stacy on Paperclipping Roundtable go to: http://www.paperclipping.com/roundtable/ She FABULOUS (as we already know).
[ Marta ] I am still trying to catch up with my printing and working on the digital part of my pictures now.
[ artiste ] yes congrats angeljade... you must be a lot younger than i am ;-)
[ nessa b. ] me too sleepyhead. got any ideas/HELP!
[ MelissaTX ] Going through all my photos has really inspired me and I've had to just stop sorting several times and create a page! :&gt;)
[ stacy julian ] "Great question sleepyhead, <br />
My other observation that I wanted to share (following the Roundtable discussion) is that I do event pages (picture-based) as a way to transition from work-brain, busy mom, overwhelmed with life to a place where I can really engage with my creative process. In other words, I grab a group of photos from my storage binders and make super-quick page and by the time I've done that (with very little expectation and a whole lot of intentional imperfection) I am ready to really explore and have fun PLAYING. LOM helps me with both of my processes -- love it!"
[ 2beCreative ] Excellent angeljade! I have one basket to go of printed pictures and I am done.
[ Keri Tate ] super stacy
[ stacy julian ] "MelissaTX,<br />
There is nothing you could say that would make me happier -- pictures are magic. We ALL need to spend more time with our pictures!!"
[ 2beCreative ] then on to digital pictures......
[ sleepyhead ] thx, stacy that helps immensely, it is sometimes hard to switch gears
[ Tilly-Loo ] Stacy -- that makes so much sense!
[ nonnysbooks ] Since I'm just starting with my scrapbooking, I'm not sure that scrapbooking chronological events is a bad thing, I know I don't have to scrap them in order, but those events are a big part of the pictures we've taken. What I'm getting so far is that I also want to capture the relationships
[ nessa b. ] does getting sidetracked fit in that creative process somewhere???? and if so, where?
[ AmySJ ] FYI Stacy. . . I did find out that there are a number of Archiver's stores that still have your book.
[ stacy julian ] sleepyhead -- don't stop yourself. Chronological is one kind of 'order' we need 'order' -- what we are doing in LOM is opening you up to other kinds of 'order' but event pages are still very much a part of this approach and system. Yes?
[ Tilly-Loo ] I thought I had the photos under control, opened up a few highlight folders to upload them and print them, and found they were.... empty. Guess I didn't get as much done as I thought.
[ gingerathome ] Amy SJ, any you can share? I'd love to purchase Photo Freedom.
[ Duckienz ] Thanks Molly. Also wanted to ask. Am I the only person here who has NEVER scrapped chronologically. It never even occured to me that I should. Although I have only been scrapping 5 years and am only 28.
[ MelissaTX ] nessa b. - I certainly hope getting sidetrack &quot;counts&quot; somewhere because it keeps happening to me and I'm having lots of fun!
[ AmySJ ] Ginger at home and others wanting the book- see the Chit Chat section, I listed the three the closest archiver's gave me and the phone numbers. It's 19.95 plus $8 shipping.
[ sleepyhead ] Yes, indeed - thanks for 'permission' LOL
[ Tilly-Loo ] Duckienz, I have never scrapped chrono either.
[ angeljade ] Duckienz - I am 28 as well and have also never scrapped chronogically.
[ artiste ] i bought photo freedom at archiver's in orem, ut
[ Molly ] Duckienz - Oh to have your &quot;freedom&quot; at such a young age!
[ AprilFL ] Duckienz, it depends what you mean as scrapbook chronologically. I always have scrapbooked layouts &quot;out of order&quot; but I always had to put them into albums &quot;in chrono order&quot; . .
[ nessa b. ] good to know Melissa. I hope one of these days I can find the fun
[ gingerathome ] "Stacy,<br />
Do you use the digital photo flow cards on your printed photos as well as digital?"
[ AmySJ ] Duckienz- I've never scrapped chrono and never felt the need. Just go where I'm led. . .
[ artiste ] and bought 'the big picture' on amazon.com with no problem
[ sleepyhead ] yes, duckienz - good for you, no 'bad' habits to break
[ liljune25 ] Stacy, I know you said that you weren't too sure about the aging process on the computer. I've been spending a lot of time with my photos and looking at my photos from my older highlights folders, I'm starting to get AHA moments across the years. It sure helps to have to scroll through only the best photos in my library. So the highlights folder is an excellent idea.
[ stacy julian ] "nonnysbooks,<br />
Have I given you the idea that scrapbooking chronological events is a bad thing? I sure hope not. My intention is to liberate you, so that you are my open to a stream of consciousness that will help your recognize and respond to authentic inspiration -- when that happens, I want you to be able to find the photos you need. In the meantime, your storage binders will help you find event photos and get them scrapbooked too."
[ Tilly-Loo ] Oh, April, that is a good distinction.
[ Clamchelle ] Okay, as a LOM alum that got sidetracked last year, I am finding that I don't use my printed photos from last year as much as I do my files still online. How can I encourage that or change thinking? Advice?
[ Duckienz ] I have always scrapbooked 'inspiration' based. If a photo appealed to me I told the story about it. I had a 'young me' album and an 'all about me' album and an everything else album LOL
[ AmySJ ] liljune- i think you are right- you can see so many more pictures at one time than in an album. . . it is easier to make connections.
[ just jeani ] what i've gotten from this so far is not to overthink the process, let it unfold. All will be revealed in due course. For now i'm just sorting and purging.
[ sleepyhead ] liljune25 - I find the same thing - I am ALWAYS on my computer or ipod looking at my pictures - now with the highlights folder I'll be looking at the photos that mean the most to give me inspiration - I'm so psyched- I've had my printed pictures in physical binders for years and I haven't looked at them at all - I guess I'm just a techie at heart, my kids call me gadget girl
[ AprilFL ] Clamchelle, what about taking a storage binder away from your scrap space and just browsing through it? make time for your printed images?
[ stacy julian ] "gingerathome,<br />
I've just started using photo flow charts and so far have them for my last four highlights folders -- only one of which has been printed. I do think you could use a flow chart for a storage binder to help you identify your TOP FIVE layouts!"
[ nonnysbooks ] No not that chronological is bad, just I've recognized through the sorting that the pictures are more event or travel based, and not much in the way of relationships (or at least not that I'm seeing yet). I need to get my camera out more often.
[ MelissaTX ] just jeani - I like that thought! I'm also not worrying about the entire process, just trying to get the sorting done and stopping to create a page when the inspiration hits!
[ Tilly-Loo ] Just Jeani -- you are SO on it. :)
[ sleepyhead ] since starting LOM I now take pictures with more purpose so I'm hoping the connections will start to reveal themselves more!
[ artiste ] stacy, since we have two weeks for this assignment, will anything new be posted this thursday? (like more homework?)
[ MelissaTX ] Hi Kaylay - I want to say that I am VERY new to PSE (got it as a Christmas gift) and have learned so much already from your tutorials! Thanks!
[ nonnysbooks ] I'm just sorry I didn't recognize this when the kids were young....those childhood relationships are going to be hard to track back to
[ stacy julian ] I love that we have a more varied group this year. I so want to learn from the digital girls -- how to see connections on my computer. I absolutely agree that it happens. I just have to incorporate more of my older photos -- scan my BEST from years gone by. I don't care where the connections are being seen/made, just that they are!
[ Molly ] I LOVE the Top Five layout feature on the Flow Cards. Talk about keeping me focused! So I often in any given quarter I have so many things I want to scrapbook that it's unrealistic. The Flow Card has really helped me stay focused on telling my most important stories.
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] Thanks Melissa!
[ sleepyhead ] ditto Molly
[ stacy julian ] nonnybrooks -- there is just so much you can do when you start to see your photos in a new light, beyond the context in which they were taken. love that you are seeing this -- and relationships, super important!
[ AmySJ ] Stacy- One thing this class has done has pushed me to start scanning my pics. I've been using the document feeder for those that are 4X whatever (APS Days) say 1994 to current- Super fast. I've wanted to for a long long time- they can be easier to safe than all the printed ones.
[ sleepyhead ] Hi Kayla - love the 'place on map' feature on PSE - I've had it for years and never realized it was there!
[ Marta ] I have to say I am loving Kayla's digital information. It has open up new doors for me. I am not that afraid to try things when it comes to digital. Thank you, Kayla!
[ Duckienz ] One woman on the forums said she'd printed 800 photos in one year. Are we printing all our photos or just our highlights folders?
[ nonnysbooks ] Up until this weekend I had only used Picasa as a viewer...trying now to break through that and have Picasa do the organizing instead of trying to accomplish it all through my operating system and computer file folders
[ sleepyhead ] oooh AmySJ, so jealous you have a document feeder - I have that on my wishlist....after digital frames and keys, of course :-)
[ stacy julian ] "artiste,<br />
you will get an email everyday -- just a little snippet/example from my storage binders. If you are digital -- think in terms of highlights folders!"
[ sleepyhead ] can't wait for an email from you everyday, how exciting!!!
[ Molly ] Marta - I agree! I'm a huge fan of Kayla (I think she needs her own t-shirt).
[ stacy julian ] AmySJ -- I will be contacting you when I'm ready to scan. I will so need your experienced help!
[ Clamchelle ] My dh will kill me if I print all my photos - I'm only printing highlights! lol
[ just jeani ] as I'm working my way through this, I'm re-visiting and really 'seeing' my photos. I keep having these 'aha moments' when I see a photo that would fit beautifully with one I sorted earlier. I made a little cheat sheet for myself so I can easily relocate and pair these up when the time comes. This is such an intuitive system and although at first I just couldn't imagine how it would work, I'm so committed to it now. The magic is happening. Do you feel it?
[ AprilFL ] duckienz, if you are more towards a traditional scrapbooker, you will start printing highlight images; not your entire library.
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] You are welcome! I am so excited to see everyone enjoying digital - it is really cool to see people leveraging technology to help their scrapbooking. :)
[ sleepyhead ] I feel the magic too jeani!
[ artiste ] is there any need to print digital photos if i'm doing digital scrapbooking?
[ Duckienz ] Thanks April. I don't do digital. I like 'glue-hands' and paper-cuts LOL
[ AmySJ ] Artisite- I hink it may depend on how your work. If you're tactile, you may want to print. If not, you may not. I won't be printing them for the purpose of storage binders.
[ liljune25 ] Yes, I am a fan of the digital content too! Great job BPS team!
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] You want to make sure your digital photos are visible to your family - if that happens through printing, great. You can also choose to show your photos in digital photo frames, on your TV, etc. I even share my kids' photos with them digitally so they can share on Facebook - they love that. :) It all depends on what works for your workflow. :)
[ stacy julian ] Please just print photos in your highlights folders and PLEASE remember that you don't need to print ALL of them. With all of the digital output options available to us (from digital scrapbooking to photo books to online sharing) you can be more intentional about what you print. Print pictures you LOVE and want to scrapbooking on traditional layouts and in theme albums and other projects. Make sense?
[ AprilFL ] Artiste, I thnk the goal is to get your images viewed by others in your household - not just the scrapbooker . . . so print, digital frame, whatever . . .
[ just jeani ] I'm still struggling with the Picasa program, making sure I don't inadvertantly delete the good stuff. Wading into deep waters - feel like I still need floaties!
[ Duckienz ] Yes, thanks
[ AprilFL ] Allowing loved ones to see and communicate with you on their thoughts on images is so AMAZING. For me, that's with my kids and husband. I know others are in different situations. We don't have digital frames in our house.
[ stacy julian ] "artiste,<br />
Are you printing (regularly) your digital layouts?"
[ artiste ] thanks. i guess i was only thinking 'scrapbooking' and not viewing.
[ liljune25 ] just jeanie: just stay away from the DELETE button and you'll be fine. :)
[ 2beCreative ] I know my father in-law just LOVES going through my storage binders and my albums of course but it is nice to have them to look at.
[ AmySJ ] LOL- my husband doesn't communicate stories when looking at pictures. . . but he does other times.
[ nonnysbooks ] As I get things into Picasa, I'm pulling photos from the CDs I've had them backed up on, then working on my computer, secure in the knowledge that whatever I do on the computer, I can still recover from the CDs.
[ artiste ] stacy, no. i've just (re)started scrapping.
[ MelissaTX ] Here's a connection I found that doesn't even involve my scrapbooks yet: when we've had visitors over the last several years, we have taken them to a local museum and have some great shots, however we've never taken my twin nieces! They are coming for their spring break visit soon and I already have an outing planned! :&gt;)
[ gingerathome ] I have to give out a big &quot;Thank you&quot; to Stacy for this class. While sorting and purging and creating highlights with my printed photos, my family has loved going through the photos. Like others have said, these are photos they haven't seen in years!
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] Melissa I hope you do a mini-book on your museum visitors for later - that would be so fun! :)
[ stacy julian ] "artiste,<br />
I believe in printing SOME pictures. How many is up to you. I want you and others in your home to live with and see and be inspired and connected to pictures and the memories they inspire."
[ Duckienz ] My partner and I have only been together 14 months. He LOVES looking through my piles of photos now. They were in albums but not displayed so he has never seen the photos before.
[ just jeani ] I love that this process has made me so much more aware of the phots I'm taking now. I have a lot of 'empty' photos, now it's time to begin shooting with purpose.
[ MelissaTX ] "GREAT IDEA!<br />
I can start it and add to it if I use those rings to hold it together!"
[ JeriP ] I have been giving duplicates to family members and have received gratitude as they relive past experiences.
[ stacy julian ] "Melissa,<br />
I love that your pictures have shown you a ritual that you want to share with your nieces -- very perceptive. Sounds like you need to create a Places We Go layout about the museum!"
[ liljune25 ] Here's another AHA moment. I've been using my blog to record memories and thoughts. I realized that I can probably categorize most of these posts under the LOM categories.
[ Duckienz ] Should we be printing our highlights folders now or is that in a later lesson?
[ sleepyhead ] great idea liljune25, i just started a blog to try to journal more and have a record of it for when I do my layouts
[ Tilly-Loo ] "liljune25 -- that is such a cool connection<br />
!"
[ AprilFL ] ohh, that's so true liljune25! Great thinking!
[ cgull1 ] Great idea on the blog organization.
[ stacy julian ] Thanks for this jeani (I love that this process has made me so much more aware of the phots I'm taking now. I have a lot of 'empty' photos, now it's time to begin shooting with purpose.) AMEN!
[ Meggie ] "My family has also enjoyed looking at the pictures I'm sorting and putting into binders.<br />
Our son has always been funny while taking pictures so I want to capture these. Now I have a way to do this.<br />
Thanks so much for all the work you've done to bring us this class."
[ Marta ] Stacy, what do you think about the Project 365 and how could I incorporated with LOM?
[ Tilly-Loo ] duckienz -- print what you can so that you can get them into storage binders. Now's the time if you can afford it.
[ AmySJ ] My husband reads my blog so it's another way he gets to see the pictures. If I'm blogging something and he asks, I ask him and get more from him that way.
[ stacy julian ] Love the idea of categorizing blog posts according to LOM. I'll so be doing this -- YES!!!!
[ Duckienz ] Thanks Tilly. They are quite cheap to print so I shall do that.
[ nonnysbooks ] Kayla - With Picasa should I be making Highlight Folders, or Highlight Albums, or are albums to be used differently?
[ gingerathome ] I am so anxious now to take other Big Picture classes. Is it &quot;do-able&quot; to be taking more classes or should I wait until LOM is over?
[ stacy julian ] As you complete highlights folders, START printing! Fill up to 15 storage binders as you can afford to do so!
[ sleepyhead ] ginger hat's off to you if you can handle another class at the same time as this one! :-)
[ AmySJ ] One thing I do is tag my blog posts similar to the ones we use for LOM (new to LOM so not using those yet). . . It makes connections based on those tags- fun to see and sometimes I see connections I never saw before.
[ artiste ] ginger, i want to take more classes too! but i can barely find time for this one!
[ AmySJ ] I also think that blogging has helped me make connections. If I'm blogging about banana cake or breakfast- I may link to an old post about banana cake for breakfast or my nephew making breakfast etc.
[ just jeani ] sorry to be so ill-informed. What is Project 365 please. (guessing it's a photo a day sort of thing?)
[ Duckienz ] I am with you artise. I am doing this 24/7 already LOL
[ stacy julian ] "gingerathome,<br />
<br />
I think you can take other BPS classes -- this just depends on your personal 'bandwidth' I find that very often our classes sort of dovetail -- meaning what you learn in one class benefits an assignment or challenge in another class."
[ MelissaTX ] I'm taking two classes now - LOM and Wellness Journey. It's a lot to keep up with, so I think you have to judge the time you have right now. I'm fortunate to not have to work outside the home and since we do not have children, my time is my own. (Well, until the nieces start arriving for the spring breakf visits. LOL)
[ AmySJ ] 365, Picture a day. Love it! DH is really into it too. You really think about documenting the every day stuff and start looking at the day differently.
[ JeriP ] I would like some advice about negatives of older photos. If I separate them now it will be difficult to find a specific photo later.
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] "Kayla - With Picasa should I be making Highlight Folders, or Highlight Albums, or are albums to be used differently?<br />
nonnysbooks<br />
<br />
Highlight Albums because you aren't moving photos - they are just virtual sets, meaning your originals stay in their folder and you virtually put them in there after you setup a parameter according to your tags. hth!"
[ nonnysbooks ] Thanks Kayla
[ Duckienz ] Kayla what does hth mean?
[ angeljade ] I have found that doing Project 365 at the same time as implementing this LOM system has been awesome - the &quot;snapshot&quot; type stories for P365 jumpstart the deeper stories I want to tell in a larger layout.
[ Marta ] I am just not sure how to combine my Project 365 with LOM. I am stuck on this one!
[ Tilly-Loo ] hth = hope that helps
[ Duckienz ] ahhh click ;)
[ nessa b. ] ok- for all us NON-bloggers (who think it's a GREAT idea and just haven't started) what do you suggest as a start point? and where do you find the time to do all this stuff?!
[ just jeani ] clarification of highlight folders vs. albums helped sooo much. thanks for asking nonnysbooks.
[ AmySJ ] Marta- what do you mean by stuck? organizing, scrapbooking?
[ stacy julian ] "JeriP,<br />
If it's not too much extra effort and you want to do it, put negatives together and label them (roughly) the same way you label your highlights folders ie, Fall 2008. This will make reprints if you ever need them easier. Just don't spend too much time with organizing negatives -- especially if it keeps you from moving forward with your actual pictures!"
[ sleepyhead ] I'm 100% digi and I've been printing S-fly books of my completed layouts - does anyone have any insight as to how to continue but still keep it in LOM categories? (Stacy, I currently print out new layouts immediately as 4x6 prints that go in my Wall O Photos so they can be shared with the family)
[ Marta ] I guess for now I could do a highlight folder and catogery drawer called Project 365.
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] Angel jade - if you use photo organization software, you could just add an extra tag/keyword for photos you want to scrapbook in Project 365... :)
[ AmySJ ] Nessa- I have my own website with a control panel that sets up wordpress for me. It's a bit of work but once set up you have complete freedom. I also do not have to worry about usage terms changing and losing copyright to my words or images.
[ Marta ] Amy - introducing Project 365 to LOM?
[ sleepyhead ] nessap - pick a blog provider like blogger.com - getting started is really easy, not much more involved than Facebook, just sign up for an account and start blogging :-)
[ Beth Stewart ] I've just started with the keywording process, and it seems to take forever! Do people really keyword all their photos?
[ stacy julian ] "Marta,<br />
Do not worry about this right now. A solution will present itself -- everything you do is really a part of your LOM. So a 2010 365 project/album can easily become part of your library. You could even create a 'Things We Do' page about taking daily photos and feature one of your 365 pictures from each month on this page!"
[ Duckienz ] Beth, just do a few at a time. The power of 15 mins. I also do it as I make a connection.
[ AmySJ ] I tag my pics with 365 and create a smart collection for them. But, I can tag'm with LOM things too. . . and they'll go in those folders/collections/etc as well.
[ stacy julian ] "Marta,<br />
I guess I should have asked, what is your intention with your 365 photos. What are you creating with them?"
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] If you keyword as you download it doesn't take as long. Also, the keywords will be invaluable as your library advances through the years - I promise! :)
[ Beth Stewart ] In PSE it seems like all the pictures I've ever taken or edited are visible at once - so overwhelming!
[ nonnysbooks ] Oh Stacy - A small success....the 1000 wedding photos have been culled to 125....with some of those really being maybes.
[ AmySJ ] For now, my pics are going in my Project 365 binder and sleeves (I am printing those for that purpose). . . BUT, I'm going to get a scrapbook album to match my LOM one and put the sleeves in there instead of the binder that came with the kit.
[ liljune25 ] Beth, I will try to tag a photo at least once (most likely a tag that answers WHO WHAT or WHERE.. just to help me find them later). I do them in batches too, which makes it easier.
[ MelissaTX ] Reading through some of the forums, I got the idea that some think there are only the four albums in our Library of Memories, however I consider ALL my albums (chronological, categorical, theme, mini, etc) to be part of my personal Library of Memories. So, everything fits!
[ Duckienz ] I LOVE the facial recognition of Picasa3.6. My partner made me a DVD for Val Day and just put John and Alisha and came up with all the photos that featured us together. He then chose he fav and voila!
[ JeriP ] Is there a limit to the number of keywords it is efficient to use? I have 50 keywords of family members and worry about adding too many more.
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] Beth you may want to go through and pare down images with ratings before you keyword. That might make it a lot less overwhelming. At least it would for me! :) Speaking from experience. :)
[ just jeani ] I began a blog at the beginning of the year intending to simply take (or upload) a photo a day. I often get into a project and then let it slide, so this has helped me to remain focused. I can easily see how it will dovetail with LOM. It's like a virtual SB complete with journaling.
[ Tilly-Loo ] Quick question for Kayla -- I have ACDSee and like it for photo organizing, but just got PSE 8 for editing/digi layouts. Should I use PSE for organizing, too?
[ stacy julian ] nonnysbooks -- UNBELIEVABLE -- way to go! You'll be so glad you've taken the time to do this.
[ JoanieBaloney ] So are you only keywording the photos in your highlights folders?
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] "Is there a limit to the number of keywords it is efficient to use? I have 50 keywords of family members and worry about adding too many more.<br />
JeriP<br />
<br />
I don't know about a maximum number, but i do know keeping your categories simple makes it easier to manage your system. :)"
[ Marta ] Thank you Stacy, that make sense. I am trying to document my everyday life. I have noticed, I do not have any documentation about me at all. I thought Project 365, would be a good way to force myself to look at all things around me.
[ stacy julian ] "Yes, this is true! (I consider ALL my albums (chronological, categorical, theme, mini, etc) to be part of my personal Library of Memories.Everything fits!)<br />
MelissaTX"
[ rick rack girl ] Stacy, I purchased i-photo this weekend. Now, I am still learning about all the functions so haven't started the tagging yet. Thanks for the tip. It seems like a great program. AND Kayla I love the tutorials...very helpful.
[ Beth Stewart ] ok, rating before tagging may help. If I delete images from my PSE organiser, does it delete them from where they're actually stored on my computer?
[ AmySJ ] Picture a Day- I find I have to print them and see the overall affect in order to motivate me to keep it up. And be very diligent about keeping up with prints. (Got a new printer at home and hoping to now print at home even more often.)
[ AmySJ ] Marta- I'm finding I have to remind my DH to take pics of my for my 365 project or else I end up just documenting him in everything we do.
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] "Quick question for Kayla -- I have ACDSee and like it for photo organizing, but just got PSE 8 for editing/digi layouts. Should I use PSE for organizing, too?<br />
Tilly-Loo<br />
<br />
If it isn't broken, don't fix it. :) If you like ACDSee and it works for you, keep doing it. If you play in PSE a bit and like the features better, you can organize there. This system is all about what works best for you. :)"
[ just jeani ] I still don't understand Tags. Will have to invest some learning time as it sounds [from this chat] that they have tremendous value.
[ Boarder ] what is meant by the &quot;school of life&quot; keyword?
[ stacy julian ] yay for rick rack girl -- I think you'll love iPhoto!
[ AmySJ ] Boarder- I was wondering the same thing.
[ cgull1 ] I'm getting stuck on making decisions for albums . . . they're an investment and I'll have to live with the color for a long time.
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] Beth - I believe in PSE you have the option and I would make sure you choose the option that also deletes them from disk so you don't find them later and wonder why they aren't in your library. :) Speaking from experience on that one too! :)
[ sleepyhead ] re-post: I'm 100$ digi and print S-fly books when I have 20+ pages of completed layouts, anyone have any insight as to how to continue but still keep it in LOM categories? (Stacy, I currently print out new layouts immediately as 4x6 prints that go in my Wall O Photos so they can be shared with the family)
[ Boarder ] is there a layout/etc that goes over the meaning of the categories/tags (e.g. school of life) - maybe i missed it
[ Duckienz ] Just Jeani they DO!!! I find them so useful. Say for example, my mother likes Elephants and I wanted to do a LO about her and elephants. I just type elephant in and find a pic that way. Once I have storage binders I could just see the date on the computer and then go from there to the right binder and find the pic.
[ cgull1 ] I got iPhoto for Christmas . . . it's great to organize! I like the facial recognition.
[ AmySJ ] cgull1- I chose a nuetral color- brown because I typically do everything in brown rather than black. Also wanted a darker color hoping it wouldn't show dirt. But, I only bought one. My first full size LO's are being printed as we speak- so for now, they'll fit in one binder with dividers. (And I can try out my album choice)
[ stacy julian ] School of Life is both a process of storing the stuff kids bring home from school, and for scrapbooking chronological highlights life within the framework of the school years, for growing children. More information coming soon!
[ AmySJ ] So Stacy, it's meant for our kids right? Not us and our school years.
[ Boarder ] is school of life only for kids - or can it be applied to adults?
[ Beth Stewart ] anyone know where to print digital layouts in Australia?
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] "re-post: I'm 100$ digi and print S-fly books when I have 20+ pages of completed layouts, anyone have any insight as to how to continue but still keep it in LOM categories? (Stacy, I currently print out new layouts immediately as 4x6 prints that go in my Wall O Photos so they can be shared with the family)<br />
sleepyhead<br />
<br />
I would tag your layouts with the album they belong in and print your next set of books as volumes of People, Places, Things, etc. just an idea :)"
[ Molly ] cgull1 - &quot;I'm getting stuck on making decisions for albums . . . they're an investment and I'll have to live with the color for a long time.&quot; That's how I felt my first year too!! I went the American Crafts route and bought only four (all brown). I've since added several more (all brown) and I like it. Love it? Jury is still out. The advantage to the AC Albums is that even the spine can be covered in paper if you want it to.
[ Duckienz ] Beth - try googling but Harvey Norman's do them I believe. I use them for all my photos.
[ just jeani ] duckienz - I'm sold on the concept, now I just have to get educated on the application. thanks for the motivation
[ Boarder ] for storage binders - if we are digital - is it ok to only have a few?
[ liljune25 ] Sleepyhead, I used to do chronological digi books. I got stuck in 2008 and stopped printing them by books. I now just print them one by one through Scrapbookpictures.com. I like to be able to move them around in different albums. Maybe someday in the distant future I will create a bound book with the same layouts in my LOM albums to give to my kids, etc.
[ cgull1 ] Amy SJ--That's smart to try out the album choice with one . . . these will still be available for purchase later. I liked your thoughts on the dark color.
[ MelissaTX ] I recently took apart the old scrapbook Mama made for me when I was growing up. I separate all the School stuff from the Growing Up stuff and am currently working on a new School Years album for me.
[ stacy julian ] sleepyhead -- I've been considering a Shutterfly share site for my layouts, set up so it mimics my physical library. I wonder if you started with this -- it might lead you in the direction of a printing solution?
[ Duckienz ] Just jeani - no worries. Look at Kayla's tutes and go from there.
[ sleepyhead ] awesome, thanks Kayla - I think I may even go back and print books now that I've re-tagged them with the categories! I think that would be awesome to have some instant gratification and an LOM library to boot!
[ Molly ] Sleepyhead - Use Shutterfly's ShareSite feature! Create a ShareSite for each (Us, People, Places and Things). Add the pages as they fit. You can share the site with family and when you have enough you can print an album. I love Shutterfly's Share Site!!
[ stacy julian ] "AmySJ,<br />
you could totally do a School of Life for you. It is a method (for lack of better word) that I developed to help me deal with mommy scrapbook guilt (a long time ago)"
[ sleepyhead ] cool - I do have a Shutterfly share site so that would be easy to implement - and I already have my digi layouts organized into LOM categories on my ipod touch and I love it!
[ Duckienz ] MelissaTX I am going to do that to. I want to scan them first though. I was going to then reprint the pages and put it back into the original binding. Mum tri-colour painted it for me.
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] I love School of Life - what is funny to me is that with my kids I have to really pare down the images and then with the stuff I have of my school days - not so much. Our photo volume has really increased. :)
[ stacy julian ] Molly -- we are on the same wave length. Love it!
[ AmySJ ] Thanks Stacy- That helps as I start creating keywords etc. Right now, I don't have most of my elementary/school pics. (And truth be told to many other interests and projects to start that now)
[ liljune25 ] I love the School of Life concept Stacy. I'm glad I learned of it while my first child is in Kindergarten.
[ stacy julian ] "No kidding! (Our photo volume has really increased. :)<br />
KaylaLamoreaux)"
[ sleepyhead ] silly question - but where does the Photos I Love category fit in - is that separate from the other categories?
[ MelissaTX ] Duckienz - love that idea. I took pictures of each page of my old scrapbook before I took it apart and have included a mini photo of some of the original pages in my new scrapbook.
[ Duckienz ] MelissaTX - oh I LOVE that idea. Te he thanks
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] It is another category - you can add that keyword to your photos that you want to add to that album. Another idea is to go through all your 3* images and flag them in your software then print or use in your layouts for your Photos I Love album.
[ stacy julian ] More information on Photos I Love and School of Life is coming soon. Don't worry too much about that now!
[ MelissaTX ] I also cut out of few places where Mama had written in the old scrapbook, mounted them on acid free paper and included them in the scrapbook to preserve some of her writing.
[ Duckienz ] Question - so the binders are only to show the photos we want to scrapbook? Not the photos that we love but can't envisage scrapping?
[ stacy julian ] "This is so smart. Personal handwriting is such a valuable thing (I also cut out of few places where Mama had written in the old scrapbook, mounted them on acid free paper and included them in the scrapbook to preserve some of her writing.<br />
MelissaTX)"
[ Boarder ] are there other off-site archive sites available besides shutterfly ?
[ sleepyhead ] ok, i can hang tight - kayla, can you just tell us where the subcats or keywords for photos i love and school of life should go for now?
[ nessa b. ] I agree with the shutterfly site idea GREAT suggestion!
[ just jeani ] I created albums for both my daughters beginning with pre-school and ending with their HS graduation. It was the perfect place to store all their school photos/art/papers/report cards etc. And yes, since these albums are 'theirs' there little or no guilt associated with the fact that all the other albums I create are MINE!
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] I will write a post when it comes out in class - sorry to jump ahead - we all have enough to do where we are in class right now. :)
[ Jessy in Front Royal VA ] Great idea just jeani!
[ AmySJ ] Re: Shutterfly site- I don't use them but wanted to say that I've started uploading my layouts to my blog and I've really enjoyed having that there where others can see.
[ stacy julian ] "Duckienz,<br />
How about all of the photos you really LOVE and want to do something creative with -- put all of those in your storage binders and then live with them and let time/inspiration be your guide. Good things will happen -- I promise!"
[ AmySJ ] Kayla- I guess we just want to minimize the amount of times we keyword our existing phots. . .
[ Jessy in Front Royal VA ] I was wondering about that also Duckienz. Thanks Stacy!
[ Tilly-Loo ] prints that you do not think you will scrapbook, or are leftover after you've scrapped a certain era to death and traiged for category drawers, those can go in cold storage, right?
[ stacy julian ] blog, Shutterfly, Shuttercal -- there is great satisfaction in making both pictures and layouts available to others -- especially family and those we love. Embrace digital sharing!
[ Duckienz ] Ahhh thanks Stacy. That makes sense. I often frame photos that I love but mean little to me. I am not a gardener but love photos of flowers for example. I am not likely to scrap these because I only scrap things that move my spirit.
[ Molly ] That's a great motto: &quot;Embrace Digital Sharing&quot;!!
[ AmySJ ] The great thing about digital sharing is that it can be done with folks who are far away. Last week I posted some &quot;Classic&quot; pics of my DH's uncle before DH was born. . . that included his brother in Washington State. . . He and his wife were able to see them.
[ sleepyhead ] Smilebox is great for digital sharing too - it's like using pre-made digital pages that can easily be emailed
[ just jeani ] I trust that the class process is unfolding in such a way that even though it appears we might have to re-do previously done [class]work, we won't. We'll simply build on the lesson that came before. Trust - it's not easy for a control freak, but I'm determined.
[ stacy julian ] Just tweeted: Embrace digital sharing. Remember, it all counts!
[ Jessy in Front Royal VA ] Tilli-Loo that's a good question, I want to know too.
[ stacy julian ] sleepyhead -- yes, smilebox too!
[ Tilly-Loo ] &quot;trust -- it's not easy for a control freak&quot; LOL! I hear you, just jeani, I hear you!
[ stacy julian ] thanks for your trust Jeani -- I'm not a believer in re-dos!
[ Molly ] Tilly-Loo - Should I risk saying, it's OK to toss them? If they've already been scrapped, triaged, categorized and there is no intention to scrapbook them any more why keep them?
[ Jessy in Front Royal VA ] I love Smilebox. It also let's you put in right onto your Facebook.
[ sleepyhead ] oh good, so great to hear you say that Stacy, I love efficiency!
[ MelissaTX ] just jeani - LOL most things are difficult for us control freaks. It's so funny because scrappin' is about the only thing I don't have to be in total control of. I can even mess up a page (and sometimes fix it or maybe not) and still enjoy the process. Now....everything else must be controlled! LOL
[ nonnysbooks ] Letting go of photos I know I won't scrapbook is a hard mindset hurdle for me to overcome.
[ Tilly-Loo ] Oh yes, I meant to add that those photos that could go in cold storage OR in the trash.
[ Duckienz ] me to sleepyhead. Not that good at it myself so I like to trust in others to provide it for me LOL
[ sleepyhead ] yes,{smilebox} and you can put them on your shutterfly share site too, but they don't have cute icons, but they do work
[ just jeani ] nonnysbooks, if they're in cold storage, you still have and you can re-choose at any time. Scrap or not to scrap - it's your call.
[ Jessy in Front Royal VA ] Throw them out? I can actually handle that because ultimetely, I know they will still be saved on DVD anyways.
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] Amy SJ - just a hint - Projects can be keyworded just like any other photo - it is your star ratings and keywords that will help you find the photos you need for ANY project or album you are working on.
[ AmySJ ] Stacy- to be &quot;caught up&quot; w/ class what are our goals for the end of next Wed?
[ Duckienz ] Nonnysbooks - I so agree. I don't like to throw away photos. I am throwing away/ deleting the REALLY bad ones but everything else I am merely setting aside for now.
[ sleepyhead ] kayla - is there a way to add an additional category in PSE - or are we just limited to 4?
[ nonnysbooks ] Yes just jeani, its just changing this old mindset that's tough...the pics have spent so much time tossed in boxes under the stairs, its hard to relegate them to that again.
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] Just hit the &quot;Plus&quot; sign and add another category - I don't think there is a limit (at least I haven't surpassed it yet) :)
[ stacy julian ] "Argh. I just lost tilly-loo's question.<br />
<br />
I think this might be the answer. Photos you don't want to scrapbook. You have options: 1. Toss, 2. Hidden cold storage, 3. Open cold storage (photos albums) Please keep in mind that as you add your personal perspective to your pictures and create very satisfying layouts, you'll feel less of a draw to the excess of pictures you have. So, if you are unsure which option to take, just set these pictures aside for now!"
[ Molly ] It may come as a surprise but I don't have any cold storage photos. If I've they've been scrapped, triaged and categorized I don't see any reason to hang on to the ones that didn't make the cut three times.
[ AmySJ ] Yup, I do that now Kayla. (I just literally don't have my pics from childhood. . . )
[ Tilly-Loo ] Thank you, Stacy!
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] Amy - I figured as savvy as you are you were already on top of it. :)
[ sleepyhead ] go Molly - I haven't been able to let go of all just yet
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] Molly you are truly embracing the concept of Photo Freedom. :)
[ just jeani ] Molly - you're my hero. I just can't toss out the 'maybes'. One day my attic floor will simply fall in.
[ sleepyhead ] Thanks Kayla, I'm tagging them as I go and I just remembered that we can just move them when the time comes :-)
[ stacy julian ] Ahh goals (thanks Amy) I'd love for you to have FIVE years of highlights ready to go (printed or in digital highlights folders)Remember the FIVE years do not need to be consecutive. You can have some highlights from your childhood, the 1990s and the last several years. Make sense?
[ Jessy in Front Royal VA ] WOW Molly, that sounds SO liberating to me!
[ Duckienz ] AmySJ - scrap the memories instead :D
[ KellyEH ] I'm even planning to use School of Life for my years of teaching, as for each year I have a class picture, various photos of classroom life and pictures and cards kids made for me
[ AmySJ ] LOl- I just removed my &quot;coaster&quot; keywords going through my keywords. I did pics for square coasters I bought at Oriental Training Company. . . Been printed at least since before Christmas.
[ Marta ] I'm with Molly. I do not have a cold storage either. The Trash Can is my best friend.
[ sleepyhead ] good reminder duckienz - nobody says there have to be pictures on a scrapbook page
[ Sandie ] Just a thought, don't be tossing all your excess prints until you've heard about the square photo drawers!
[ AmySJ ] My mom has most of my school pics... Eventually when I have time for them, I'll get them from her.
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] Kelly EH what a great idea for teachers - love that!
[ stacy julian ] "Kelly,<br />
Love this idea for a teacher!"
[ Marta ] Can you guys tell, I am a student of Molly's!
[ Molly ] Yes I am!! Having cold storage albums the first year was too much for me. I've learned to simplify and in case you're wondering... there is not a single photo that I've thrown in the trash that I've missed. And that's coming from someone who's tossed photos for the past three years. If you're not there yet - don't worry.
[ nonnysbooks ] After talking with DH this past weekend, we probably will not have print cold storage, but he too is not convinced about deleting the digi images...archive fine, but delete &lt;gasp&gt;
[ Tilly-Loo ] Another option, before tossing, is to think if there are grandparents, friends, others in the photos, who might enjoy them and not see them as &quot;used&quot;
[ MelissaTX ] I love the teacher idea, too. I have my teaching years all sorted now for an album. Figured I could start it while I'm on &quot;unofficial sabbatical&quot; and then add to it later if I return to teaching.
[ stacy julian ] Go Marta and Molly -- FREEDOM! For the rest of you, this kind of decisiveness develops over time. Be patient.
[ Duckienz ] Exactly. I have quite a few photo-less LOs. I even have frames on some with insert deleted/missing/never taken photo here LOL
[ sleepyhead ] Everytime I get overwhelmed I just remind myself this is at least 3 year {class} journey not just a 10 lesson class
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] Nonnysbooks - my favorite Digital Asset Management expert who is known all over the world resists deleting images too - so I think it is just whatever works for your workflow!! :)
[ AmySJ ] Delete is great- if you don't want the pic. . . very freeing. Best thing I did for myself while I wasn't scrapbooking the past few years. . . I can find things faster. But I don't delete pics that I like etc that I may not scrapbook. I think that's where additional photo albums and prints come into play.
[ stacy julian ] "nonnysbooks,<br />
no one said you have to delete digital pictures you want to keep. You are welcome to archive as much as you want. But be sure to archive just the highlights too!"
[ KaylaLamoreaux ] I am going to run - it was great chatting with everyone I always learn something from you all. :)
[ AmySJ ] I think what works for deletion fear is to put them somewhere else &amp; keep 'em for a while. After a while, you either realize you miss some or you don't. . . you'll know then if it's time to get of them.
[ MelissaTX ] sleepyhead - I agree. I'm doing what I can this year and enjoying the process!
[ Molly ] Don't worry sleepyhead - you'll get there!
[ Duckienz ] Arrivederci Kayla xxx
[ 2beCreative ] Thanks Kayla!
[ Marta ] Bye, Kayla! Good Chatting with you as well.
[ Tilly-Loo ] Thanks, Kayla!
[ stacy julian ] "You are a wise woman (Everytime I get overwhelmed I just remind myself this is at least 3 year {class} journey not just a 10 lesson class<br />
sleepyhead)"
[ nonnysbooks ] After spinning my wheels and restarting my process a couple times this weekend, and while I'm okay with deleting some of the older pics I won't scrapbook, DH is not....and they are his memories too.
[ stacy julian ] "OK, it's wrap up time. <br />
Any additional questions dying to be answered?"
[ sleepyhead ] can't wait for your daily inspiration!
[ Jessy in Front Royal VA ] Thank you everybody!
[ Tilly-Loo ] Thank you, Stacy!
[ 2beCreative ] Thanks Stacy!
[ Molly ] Is there any chocolate?
[ just jeani ] what I learned on this chat: Digital tags are my friends [get to know them]; be willing to [judicioucly]toss photos that have no meaning/use/value; trust the process; be patient; keep going. Thanks ladies -
[ Duckienz ] When you say play with digital images and not organise them, will there be a time in class to organise or do we do this ourselves?
[ nonnysbooks ] Have a great day and stay warm everyone....
[ JeriP ] Thank you for everything.
[ MelissaTX ] Thanks to everyone for participating. I'm inspired now to tag some digital photos!
[ Marta ] Thank you Stacy for everything and taking the time to answer are questions. You are an Angel!!!!
[ stacy julian ] Thanks again to our trainers and coaches for coming -- and ALL of you!
[ Marta ] Thanks, Molly. You rock! As usual!
[ AmySJ ] Thanks!
[ nessa b. ] loved all the info. and ideas. thanks everyone!
[ sleepyhead ] I'm with Molly - got my Godiva at the ready! {virtual sharing going on}
[ stacy julian ] "Duckienz,<br />
I'm confused by this question: When you say play with digital images and not organise them, will there be a time in class to organise or do we do this ourselves?"
[ sleepyhead ] Scrap Day at my house on Saturday - no organizing allowed - playing only :-)
[ Duckienz ] Stacy - you said we needed to play with our digital images and make highlight folders. Do we remane etc our photos in our own time or will you cover this at all?
[ Duckienz ] and by remane I meant re-name
[ sleepyhead ] duckie - you probably want to check out the digital tutorials that Kayla has - no need to rename files - but tagging them will help you find them
[ Duckienz ] Just that NONE of my photos are named and I am going through and doing them all now but I was wondering if you were going to cover that.
[ stacy julian ] "Yikes, I think what I meant was focus on just getting digital images pared down and into highlights folders (top priority) from there you can go back and 'play' with additional key words and tags, etc..<br />
does that help?<br />
In other words, don't get too caught up in details that you are not ready to move forward with lesson 3 -- yes?"
[ Duckienz ] Ahhh ok sleepyhead I may look into that, thanks.
[ stacy julian ] "Duckienz,<br />
I don't rename anything, ever -- does that help?"
[ sleepyhead ] duckie - adopt the mantra.. purge, rate then tag and it seems alot more manageable :-)
[ Duckienz ] Thanks Stacy. I will be ready to move forward for sure :D Just wanting to rename them because at present they are named things such as ddjuety as I randomly hit keyboard te he
[ Duckienz ] Wow, it does. Thanks so much Stacy and sleepyhead!
[ stacy julian ] "Ok -- good. <br />
I'll see you on the boards. <br />
bye."
[ sleepyhead ] DD just came in and asked if I was done with class so we could go do something in order for me to make a Things We Do page - we are officially LOM-itized!
[ just jeani ] duckienz - i'm the least digitally inclined member of this class for sure, but as long as you can actually see your photos why rename them? The folders need names so you know their contents, but the photos are self explanatory.
[ Duckienz ] See ya guys!
[ Duckienz ] Just jeani - I have NO folders LOL. Just thousands of loose photos on my computer, on discs, on hard drives etc etc etc
[ Duckienz ] oh and my camera was set to the wrong time/day so I am trying to go through and reset the time/date so that I even know when they were taken!
[ just jeani ] Duckienz - ummm, that could be a bit of a challenge. Still I'd just create folders and move photos to them for easy locating later. Then of course there's the purge and tag stuff. I'm not there either, but folders are a must for me.
[ Duckienz ] Beth Stewart - did you see my post re Harvey Norman and printing digital LOs?
[ sleepyhead ] duckie your time is definitely better spent resetting the time than changing the name - I have to do the same thing - all of mine say 1/1/2000 for about 3 years!
[ just jeani ] Duckienz - the camera thing sucks, you'll want to get that fixed so at the very least you can 'date' your photos for future reference. Best of luck. Cheers
[ Duckienz ] Just jeani - I am not working at the mo so I am putting in a few hours a day into organising photos. Just wanted to know if Stacy was going to cover this so that I don't step over a lesson coming up I guess. It has been on my to do list for a few years now. I have been digital for about 5 years. I have already set up my binders with 10 years of pics so I am ready to move forward in class.
[ sleepyhead ] i doubt that Stacy will cover that specifically - Kayla's tutorials will show you what you need to know, even the part about resetting the date and time - good luck!
[ Duckienz ] Oh I have reset my camera now for future photos (and got my mum to do hers after seeing some of her pics) so we are all good for the last year but before that not so good LOL
[ just jeani ] Duckeinz, I can't imagine that sorting and making your photos easy to class and find will overstep a class. The more our photos [digital and printed] are sorted and easy to find the better subsequent steps will be. Best of luck.
[ Duckienz ] Sweet. I thought that she'd be unlikely to cover that but wanted to check.
[ artiste ] i set my camera to NO date stamp because i don't want the date stamp showing up on my photos/layouts... is there a way to have them date stamped when taken and not have it show up when printed?
[ Duckienz ] yay, thanks guys. I appreciate this extra help. I needed to re-motivate I think. I want my scrapping to be as easy as poss.
[ Duckienz ] artise - YES! I hate having the date on photos but it is great to have it embedded in digital photos.
[ sleepyhead ] artiste - just make sure the date is correct on your camera and it will save it in the picture file [metadata] - then when you get your pictures printed in a batch most online places will allow you to select a caption to print on the back - that is a great place to put the date
[ Duckienz ] I would google your make of camera and that question. Google finds EVERYTHING lol.
[ Duckienz ] or ask sleepyhead ;)
[ artiste ] sounds good... but what if i'm doing a digital layout? i mean, i like having them date-stamped when their in the folders, but is there a way to turn off the date before i do a digital layout?
[ artiste ] i should say &quot;remove&quot; the date
[ artiste ] their=they're :-)
[ Duckienz ] Pass. I have never gone digital. I don't even know where to start lol.
[ sleepyhead ] if it is physically digitally stamped in your photo you would have to edit or crop it before using it in your layout to remove the date
[ artiste ] ok, thanks sleepyhead... that's what i was wondering
[ artiste ] i have a friend who does that with her editing software but that seems to time-consuming to me
[ artiste ] to = too (geez... typos here)
[ sleepyhead ] def agree- turn off the digital stamping and just make sure your camera has the right date set and that will save as part of the file but not show up on the actual photo - make sense?
[ artiste ] actually, no, it doesn't
[ artiste ] oh wait... yes it does
[ sleepyhead ] cool - you're set then - gotta run - have a great day!
[ Duckienz ] te he he Where are you from Artise? Is it early morning there?
[ artiste ] but if it's not stamped on the photo, what good does it do to have the correct date set on the camera?
[ Duckienz ] Have fun LOMing sleepyhead
[ artiste ] i'm in utah... 1:24 pm
[ Duckienz ] Artise - it means that if you want to know when a photo was taken you can see
[ sleepyhead ] because when you import it into your computer - the date information is saved with the file - just right click on the image and go to properties and it will tell you when it was taken
[ artiste ] oh! VERY cool! Thank you!!!
[ Duckienz ] you hover your mouse over the photo and it tells you all the camera info including date.
[ artiste ] so glad i came... thanks for your help! bye now... have a great day!
[ Duckienz ] artise, I guess you can't blame typos on early morning then lol. This chat starting at 8am for me (I am in New Zealand)
[ artiste ] i'd like it to be that early again... i could use the extra hours today :-)
[ artiste ] gotta go... bye
