Welcome Back!

To teach this library system, I had to break down the key steps and processes, and figure out how to present them in a logical order. Please know that putting a sequence to everything is tricky because once you get your storage binders and category drawers set up and functioning, there isn't necessarily an order to maintaining them. Remember that while this course is weeks long, I'm asking you to implement (in only ten lessons) processes that took me years to figure out and refine.

Please be patient with yourself. I so appreciate your efforts and your trust. The end result of "photo freedom" is worth some confusion and frustration along the way.

This week as we begin to pull photos to place in general categories, we will take what I'm calling the photo-connection challenge. If you follow through, you are sure to catch a glimpse of where we are headed.

As a reminder, once you get about five years of your BEST photos slipped into storage binders, I need you to shift your focus to moving forward with the class. Many of you are dealing with decades of photos and will, therefore, continue working on your chronological sorting and storage for several weeks. This is good. Keep plugging along, by setting aside 15 minutes each day to sort and slip printed photos into your storage binders. You will be pleasantly surprised by how much progress you make in short spurts of daily effort.

CAUTION: Do not get so bogged down with these initial steps that you can't move forward. Do your best to keep up with the class assignments as they are given.

Have a fabulous week. I promise, the "Ahas" are coming!

NOTE: This week, I want you to listen to both audio messages and then print the handout and additional worksheets/downloads. When you have time, view the presentation entitled Photo Triage.

The LOM Gallery
Our student gallery is a wonderful extension of the community we are building here. You should not feel obligated or stressed about uploading images, but if you have the time and the inclination, sharing images of your progress, pages and projects is a wonderful way to connect to other students. Once you upload an image, please specify which sub-gallery you'd like it to appear in. If we are careful to assign our images to the correct weekly gallery we will facilitate a wonderful resource that follows the class syllabus.

If you are unfamiliar with online galleries, please click here for some basic how-to information.
To see a gallery thumbnail image up close, simply click on the thumbnail. In this larger view, you can do three things …

  1. Leave a comment in the comment box.
  2. Click on the student's username and see all other images they have uploaded.
  3. Click on the "send email" link and send them a personal comment or question.

Be sure to check out both my gallery and our LOM coaches' gallery for additional ideas and insight.
