Welcome
to the 2010 session of A Library of Memories.
This will be my fifth year teaching this course
and I am beyond excited about the things we are
going to learn and do together. I've made significant
changes to our course syllabus this year. The first
big change starts now, in this preparation phase.
You
have work to do before class begins on Thursday,
February 4th. I want to help you take
advantage of whatever lead-time you have to begin
preparing for LOM success.
| The
goal of this course is to set aside unspoken
"rules" and unhealthy expectations
that are obstacles to personal creativity and
liberate you from the guilt, obligation and
confusion often associated with scrapbooking.
The objective is to establish a system
that will support you in a very satisfying approach
to documenting the people, places and things
that make life worth living. Read this

Please
start your exploration of this pre-classroom by
watching my What to Expect video clip.If
you have not already done so, print the course syllabus
as well. I recommend purchasing a 3" binder
and using it to store all of the handouts, worksheets
and transcripts that you'll be printing over the
next several weeks. You will keep your current handout/assignments
clipped to your clipboard, but when you are done,
it's helpful to have a printed archive to refer
back to. It is also very wise to set up a Library
of Memories folder on your computer, inside
your documents folder or on your desktop. Create
ten subfolders, one for each lesson and be diligent
in using the "Save As
" option as
soon as you open a handout or printable worksheet.
As a registered student you will always have access
to this 2010 classroom, but I still recommend both
digital and printed archives.
Once
you have a good idea of what to expect from Library
of Memories and me, I encourage you to dive right
in. Your assignment is to begin sorting and purging
both printed photos and digital images and organizing
them in chronological order. This will be easier
than you think. These processes are outlined
in the handouts posted below.
I
will be joined this year by four Library of Memories
trainers (former coaches that will be playing a
more active role in teaching and supporting you).
Kayla Lamoreaux is our LOM digital trainer. You'll
learn more about Kayla when our classroom opens.
She has prepared materials that will help guide
you in finding and purchasing photo software, if
you need it.
The
additional audio message, The good, the bad and
the ugly, is a peek into my past and how this
crazy (but incredibly effective) system was born.
I
am delighted you are here and committed to taking
charge of your boxes of photos, your digital workflow
and more importantly, your creative story-telling
process. If I do my job right, you will have the
tools and understanding you need to set up and customize
a comprehensive system designed to help you find
and use your pictures in meaningful ways. If you
do your job and persist in being "scrapstrong,"
you will come to know a wonderful sense of freedom
and you will feel inspired to use your photos
in a variety of exciting ways. This includes scrapbooking.
If you are auditing this class as an alumnus, welcome
back! I'm thrilled you have returned. As mentioned
above, I have significantly updated the LOM curriculum
this year, so you will want to start fresh with
your digital and printed archives. Just promise
me you'll recycle your old paper handouts.
I
can't wait until February 4th,
p.s.
We are in the process of shipping welcome packets
to all newly registered students. Please verify
that your mailing address is correct under "My
Information", and print the Welcome
Packet Checklist below for more information.
NOTE:
While I cannot address individual emails and questions
until class begins, I will write several Q + A posts
on my blog at stacyjulian.com.
If you have a question, feel free to email me at
stacy@bigpicturescrapbooking.com.
